5) T. E. Lawrence - famed as Lawrence of Arabia in WW1 - had to write much of his book Seven Pillars of Wisdom twice because he left the original manuscript of the book on a train and it was never found.

6) The gold roof of the Krakow cathedral in Poland was badly dissolved by acid rain produced by the burning of fossil fuels like coal.

7) Up to 20% of all road traffic accidents in Sweden are said to involve a Moose.

9) The New York Times printed a story in 1920 that ridiculed the rocket experiements being carried out by Dr Goddard. The newspaper graciously printed an apology for its mistake nearly half a century later, on 17th July 1969, while Apollo 11 was en-route to the Moon.

10) Mr Michael Mellor spent 8 months of 1994 posing as a traffic cop in England before he was found out to be a fake and fined.
