Microsoft Stays Ahead of Apple Following Strong Sales
Microsoft has fueled optimism about the strength of recovery in the technology sector by reporting its quarterly revenues have reached new heights underpinned by healthy sales.
The software giant saw revenues jump 22% to $16bn (about £10.5bn) during the quarter ended June and operating profits surged 49% to just short of $6bn. These figures surpassed Wall Street's expectation causing Microsoft's shares to gain almost 3% during after hours trading.
The numbers come on the back of the Windows 7 Operating System launch which some analysts say confirms the company's heavy reliance on their flagship Windows and Office products.
